Opportunities in China's Regional Cities

The latest research report on ‘Opportunities for UK Businesses in China’s regional cities’ shows that there are a wealth of opportunities across a broad number of sectors and UK companies need to look beyond the traditional business locations in China.

The original ‘Opportunities for UK Businesses in China’s Regional Cities’ report, published in September 2008, received positive feedback from both British and Chinese businesses and it was warmly welcomed by the Chinese Government. The report focused attention on the market expansion and development of China’s Regional Cities and the relevance of this to British businesses.

However, in the last three years there have been several major economic and political developments which have impacted British business and their internationalisation prospects. The global financial crisis and UK recession which began in 2008 has changed the international economic landscape. China was not immune to this and the country launched its own financial stimulus package of US$400bn in late 2008. As a consequence of the global economic challenges, annual inward foreign direct investment shrunk by a third in 2008 but has recovered since. The positive development is reflected by the Chinese economy being valued at US$5.8 trillion in 2010, overtaking Japan to become the second-largest economy behind the USA.

Shandong Province Report

A separate report published originally in July 2010 and new in February 2011 focuses exclusively on the Shandong Province which is China’s third most populous province and also ranks third in order of GDP.
