In 2008, the Dominican Republic's GDP growth was 5.3%. Despite the unfavourable international situation, the country continued to grow beyond expectations and to a satisfactory level. Foreign direct investment in 2008 totalled US$2.88 Billion. The UK is the fourth largest investor in the Dominican Republic, with a total of US$1 billion, behind the US, Canada and Spain.
