Architecture
The UK is one of the world’s leading centres of architectural expertise, boasting an unparalleled depth and diversity of experience.
It is renowned for its architectural creativity and innovation, with UK-based architects increasingly acclaimed for their experimental, versatile and futuristic techniques and technologies. They are particularly pioneering in the area of low-carbon and sustainable architectural design, both social and environmental, and are at the forefront of ecologically friendly, energy-efficient buildings.
Foster + Partners’ design for the new Berlin Reichstag, for example, incorporated a vegetable oil fuelling method which reduced carbon dioxide emissions by 94 per cent; while Bill Dunster designed the award-winning BedZED, an environmentally friendly, energy- and water efficient mix of housing and workspace in Surrey.
Other industry specialisms where UK architects excel include urban regeneration; transport infrastructure, such as the extension and development of major railway and metro stations; the design of sporting venues and facilities; residential and office architecture; and the design of high-profile civic buildings, such as government buildings, hospitals, theatres, museums, libraries and law courts.
