The UK television industry produces a highly successful range of spin-off products, such as DVDs, books and websites, which are enjoyed and accessed by people all over the world.

  • International revenue from UK TV programme-related DVDs stood at £181 million in 2010, an increase of 3 per cent. (1)

  • Independent research shows that a huge percentage of audiences want to have TV brand extensions such as DVDs, books and websites. Many TV companies are coming up with increasingly innovative ways of packaging DVDs, including the selling of part works, whereby magazines are packaged with a DVD and sold in newsagents and kiosks.

  • BBC Worldwide operates a range of businesses, including publishing magazines and DVDs, and licensing music and merchandise. Its profits are returned to the BBC for investment in new programming and services. (2)

  • BBC.com has the largest international reach of any UK news website, with a reported 58 million users outside the UK per month. It has launched specially tailored editions of the website for the US, India, Asia and Australia/New Zealand. (3)
