Science & Innovation
Innovation & Emerging Technologies
Innovation is key to world competitiveness and the cornerstone of successful business. From steam engines to DNA fingerprinting technology, the UK holds an extraordinary record of innovations and scientific discoveries that transform the lives of people and businesses.
The Science & Innovation team focuses on showcasing UK excellence in innovation and emerging technologies, promoting the UK as a global innovation hub and raising awareness of commercial opportunities available to business in for example, Large Scale Research Facilities, just one among a range of areas where there are opportunities for UK business.
Universities
UKTI is keen to increase its support for UK international commercial activities in the education sector. As part of that focus, the responsibility for strategic relationships with Universities sits with the Science & Innovation team in particular, with the Universities Liaison Officer (ULO).
The Science & Innovation team co-ordinate a strategic programme of visits to, and meetings with universities and academic institutions by Ministers, and senior officials. The ULO also engages directly with these actors to develop and maintain high level relationships, building understanding of how UKTI operates. Our aim is to encourage universities and academic institutions to draw on UKTI services and knowledge through our network in the UK and overseas to support and expand their international commercial activities.
As part of the two-way dialogue, the ULO ensures that the UKTI network is aware of what UK Universities can offer in support of UK international trade and inward investment.
