Somerset luxury hand-embellished knits hit sydney’s high end fashion stores

UKTI’s Tradeshow Access programme helps Somerset based E-Moor succeed in Australia.

Somerset company e-moor Ltd is celebrating success down under after its hand-embellished knitwear has been selling out at top fashion outlets in Sydney.

E-moor Ltd has taken orders for its Mary Davis knitwear brand from the Oh Yes shops in Sydney following their appearance at the ‘Paris Sur Mode’ Show – with support from UK Trade & Investment (UKTI).

The company took part in the Paris show in March with funding from UKTI through the Trade Show Access Programme (TAP) and had an opportunity to show their range of UK designed and manufactured knitwear to buyers from around the world. They met with Diane Segal, from Oh Yes, who put in her first order for the company’s winter collection.

Since then the Sydney stores have sold out and the Australian retailer has placed a significant repeat order three times the size of the original.

E-moor Ltd has already had some previous orders from customers in France, Germany and Italy and is now keen to continue their expansion into the Italian market. Whilst the Paris fashion shows enable companies to reach buyers from around the world, Italian buyers prefer to view new collections right on their own doorstep and so E-moor Ltd is talking to the UKTI team in Milan about how best to approach the market there. UKTI’s advisers visited the company’s stand at Paris Sur Mode to take a look at the company’s products so they can advise on which is the best Italian show to visit and where they should be placed in it.

“We produce very high end ladies knitwear and it’s essential that we are placed in just the right position at just the right show,” said E-moor’s Fiona Jackson.

“The attention to detail by the team in Italy has been very impressive and I hope that we can develop some important contacts by taking part in shows in Italy with their support.”

E-moor Ltd is based in Wedmore, Somerset, where the Mary Davis collections of knitwear and cotton jackets, jumpers and tops are sold through a small retail outlet as well as the company’s online and wholesale business. The company’s products are designed and made in the UK – with hand-knits produced around the UK and machine knits produced in Hawick, Scotland.

“We are delighted to have had a break in the Australian market and really excited about the potential for growth overseas,” said E-moor’s Fiona Jackson.

“Visiting shows like Paris Sur Mode is an essential part of our international marketing strategy and an ideal way to reach those important buyers from overseas. UK Trade & Investment’s support in attending the shows and back-up advice and support has been invaluable and we hope to make further use of their network of staff in embassies overseas.”

Hilary Charman, International Trade Adviser for UKTI, who helped E-moor Ltd access the TAP funding and the UKTI teams overseas, said:

“I would urge companies who are considering exporting to get in touch with us; we can offer small companies an excellent range of support and advice.”
