Baby store to break into US market

Yorkshire-based company Mamas & Papas has linked-up with a major US retailer, it has announced.

The nursery and parenting brand, which is based in Huddersfield, has agreed a strategic partnership with baby products retailer Babies”R”Us.

Under the terms of the agreement, Babies”R”Us will stock a range of Mamas & Papas strollers, travel accessories and toys throughout stores in the US.

An expanded range of products will be available to buy at various locations in New York including the Toys”R”Us store in Times Square, the FAO Schwarz store on Fifth Avenue, and at the Babies”R”Us store in Union Square.

Luisa Scacchetti, who founded Mamas & Papas in 1981, said it had been her dream to see the store break into the US market.

She said: “By anticipating the ever-changing needs of pregnant women and their families, whilst remaining true to our core values, we are proud to be the number one nursery brand in the UK.

“My long-time ambition has been to bring our brand to American families so we can share in their unique journey into parenthood.”

Ms Scacchetti added that as a company, Mamas & Papas strives to “understand and anticipate the needs of expectant mothers and their partners, as well as the young ones they care for”.

Last month, it was announced that Mamas & Papas had agreed a deal to take the company to Malta. It now operates stores in 70 countries worldwide.
