Online boost for UK small businesses

British company offers SMEs unique help to gain extra sales through social networks and blogs

A British-based company is bidding to get more small and medium enterprises online and help boost their sales through cyberspace.

Fuelmywebsite.com hopes to encourage and enable Britain's small businesses to get a stronger foothold on the Internet, by gaining coverage across social networks such as Facebook and Twitter.

It helps firms interact with some of the 35,000 pre-approved blogs within their exclusive online network, fuelmyblog.com.

These blogs often have vital information that cannot be found on traditional mainstream websites and allow potential customers with a real interest in the service they are providing, or niche they are serving, to be targeted.

The idea follows on from the successful Fuelmyblog.com website, founded in 2007 by Internet entrepreneur Kevin Dixie and wife Sylvie.

Boasting over 35,000 bloggers, the network was created by the pair amid their frustration at not being able to find useful and honest blog reviews which helped them with vital information when moving to France in 2006, by creating an exclusive community, they managed to attract the best of breed bloggers on the web.

In order to keep the site safe for children, porn and spam free, they humanly moderate each user that joins up, the pair estimate to have turned away over 20,000 unsuitable blogs to date.

It encouraged bloggers to join, share information and grow readership by enabling private messaging and a voting system pushing the best content to the homepage, and now the team behind it are launching fuelmywebsite.com to do the same for SMEs.

“But up until now, it has only been feasible for large corporations to think about getting their message across online using bloggers and social media.”

He added: “By focusing on the people who write about the areas these small businesses are serving, fuelmywebsite.com harnesses the power of blogs and social network groups to attract more customers and sales.
