Russia - 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics; Development of Sport and Supporting Infrastructure (HVO RUS-8)

Russia will host the XXII Olympic and XI Paralympics Winter Games in February - March 2014 in Sochi. The potential opportunities for UK companies are enormous.

Opportunities

Through the prism of the 2012 Games we encourage UK companies to promote their expertise in a broad range of industries. The list of industries includes a broad range of disciplines from venue management, security, environmental planning, power engineering, sport venue fit out (plant and equipment, seating, surfacing, lighting, IT), through to event delivery (security, recruitment, volunteering programmes, training, broadcasting, event management, media signage, ticketing, screens, temporary overlay, branding, hospitality, catering. Background

The Olympic and Paralympic Games in Sochi will be in February – March 2014. The Sochi Games project is going according to the schedule.

The official delivery plan records some 218 projects to be constructed in Sochi. More than 1 trillion roubles (C USD 35 billion) will be spent between 2009 and 2012 on the preparations for the 2014 Winter Olympic Games with 699.3 billion roubles (C USD 23.31 billion) allocated from the federal budget;

The projected budget for construction of 12 custom-built sports venues, located in two clusters (the "Coastal Cluster" for ice events and the "Mountain Cluster" in Krasnaya Polyana) is about 200 billion roubles (C USD 6.6) billion.; The operating budget for the actual games is USD 1.8 billion. The plan requires delivery of complex infrastructure projects, including more than 100km of railway lines, 75km of highways, 19 flyovers, 20 tunnels, 5,000m of mooring installations, a new waste processing plant, and a port for a capacity of 10 ships and 300 yachts, plus goods terminals and port stations. Sixteen new hotels will also be built, while 10 existing ones will be remodelled. The Games will become a catalyst of the regeneration of the entire Krasnodar Region. Sochi is virtually doubling in size to meet the new demands for 2014 and beyond. Its expansion is aimed at increasing tourism industry from current USD 5 billion to USD 8-10 bn after 2014. Airport capacity is doubling to take 2,500 passengers an hour.
