Industrial Engagement

The Ministry of Defence's White Paper; 'National Security Through Technology' announced a new approach towards engagement with overseas-based defence and security suppliers.

The aim of the Defence and Security Industrial Engagement Policy (DSIEP) is to encourage participating companies to invest in the defence and security sectors in UK. Companies agreeing to take part will be encouraged to:

  • see the UK as a prime location to engage in research & development, investment and technology transfer;

  • extend opportunities for UK companies to become part of their supply chain; and

  • engage specifically with SMEs in these activities and, where possible, provide advice to enhance SMEs opportunities to succeed in the market place.

The Industrial Engagement Unit (IEU) will draw up agreements with overseas suppliers that set out the arrangements for engaging with UK industry and reporting activities

Annual reports will provide MoD Ministers with a consolidated overview of how valued overseas based suppliers interact with the UK’s defence and security sector and, crucially, how, through this interaction, they support and enhance the UK’s defence and security capability.

The IEU will approach overseas-based companies over the next few months and further information on utilising the DSIEP will be made available here as this develops.

Peter Luff, Minister for Defence Equipment, Support and Technology has announced that Boeing is the first company to sign up to the new policy. The full announcement can be found at:
