Mexico – Tender for Wastewater Treatment Plant

The Sistema Municipal de Agua Potable y Alcantarillado (SMAPA), water utility serving Tuxtla Gutierrez, capital city of the southern state of Chiapas in Mexico, has released provisional bidding rules for a wastewater treatment plant concession.

The National Infrastructure Fund (FONADIN) will provide a 160 million pesos (USD $12.6 million) subsidy for the project that has been approved by the National Water Authority (CONAGUA) and the National Institute of Water Technology (IMTA).

The project includes:

  • Building a wastewater treatment plant in the northwest of the city of Tuxtla Gutierrez which will have a treatment capacity of 320 l/s.

  • Upgrading and expanding the Paso Limon treatment plant to double its capacity from 400l/s to 800l/s.

The winning firm will operate both plants. The project also includes connecting drains and fixing marginal collectors to carry wastewater to the treatment plant and prevent untreated sewage from flowing into the Sabinal river.
