HRH The Duke of York visited Algeria and Tunisia in May 2009. In Algeria, he called upon the Minister of Defence, the Minister of Commerce, attended a lunch given by the Minister of Finance, and opened the new British Embassy. In Tunisia, The Duke met the Prime Minister of the Tunisian Republic and the Minister for Energy. He attended a lunch given by the Minister for Development and International Co-operation, a reception for the business community and a dinner for representatives of the financial sector. He also visited the offices of the British Council.

HRH The Duke of York met President Aliyev during an official visit to Azerbaijan in June 2009. He attended the official opening of the 16th Caspian Oil & Gas Exhibition. The Duke also met senior Government figures, the chairman of the Central Bank and the President of the International Bank of Azerbaijan, and was given a presentation by UK company Landis+Gyr, a world-leader in the design and manufacture of electricity and gas meters.

During his visit to New York in June 2009, The Duke of York attended the “50 Years of Creative Britain” exhibition, showcasing the best of British design at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum. He also attended a lunch with British American Business at HSBC’s offices and dinners with Thomson Reuters and Lloyds of London.

During his visit to Saudi Arabia in September 2009, HRH The Duke of York represented HM the Queen at the opening of the new King Abdullah University for Science and Technology (KAUST). The Duke met several regional leaders at the KAUST opening.  He also met a group of Vice Chancellors and senior academics from 15 British Universities. The Duke met Amr Dabbagh, the Head of SAGIA (the Saudi Arabian General Investment Authority) and other senior economic decision-makers for a briefing on and discussion of trade and investment issues.

During his visit to Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam in September 2009, HRH The Duke of York met heads of state, ministers and senior business leaders, including Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and Prime Minister Abhisit Vejajiva. In Singapore, he witnessed the signing of a Research Collaboration Agreement for Neuroscience Research between the University of Warwick and Nanyang Technological University. In Thailand, The Duke attended a Round Table Energy meeting with UK Energy companies. At the third annual UK-Vietnam Joint Economic and Trade Committee meeting in Hanoi, The Duke said that Vietnam is “a fast-growing market that is quickly moving up the value chain”. He also took the opportunity to visit HSBC/Bao Viet, Rolls Royce and the British Council.

In October 2009, HRH The Duke of York met heads of state and government and senior ministers during a visit to the Qatar, Oman, the UAE and Egypt. The visit focused on supporting British business across a number of sectors including Education, Oil and Gas, ICT, Financial Services and Sports and Leisure Infrastructure. During the visit, he signed the UK-Qatar Investment Promotion and Protection Agreement and gave a speech at a reception, celebrating 20 Years of Successful Energy Partnership with Egypt.

During his visit to Moscow in December 2009, HRH The Duke of York attended a business dinner with Russian economic analysts hosted by the British Ambassador. He visited TNK BP where he met the Chairman and Chief Executive. He also met the Deputy Prime Minister, the Economic Adviser to the President and the Chairman of Sberbank.

HRH The Duke of York’s engagements during the World Economic Forum 2010 included meetings with The Crown Prince of the Kingdom of Bahrain, The President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, The President of Mongolia, The Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand and The Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. He also met many industry leaders, hosted a “UK – Standing Out” Reception and attended the World Food Programme reception.

During his visit to Mexico in February 2010, HRH The Duke of York launched the 2010 Young Creative Entrepreneur Award, which seeks to create a network of contacts between Mexico and the UK, at an event to promote the UK's creative industries. He also launched a "Mexico Matters" campaign which seeks to encourage UK business to investigate opportunities in this market. In Panama, The Duke attended a State Dinner at the Presidential Palace, had meetings with the Minister of Commerce and Industry, the Minister of Economy and Finance and the Minister of Foreign Affairs. He also attended briefings on the Panama Pacifico Project and on the Panama Canal Expansion Project.

HRH The Duke of York visited India in March 2010. In Mumbai, he attended a reception for inward investors, a dinner for business leaders and met with members of the British Business Group. In New Delhi, he met the Minister of State for Commerce and Industry, visited Indian investor Religare and the new terminal at IGI New Delhi Airport. In Kolkata, The Duke visited the HSBC BPO Centre and Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers and attended a Low Carbon Economy seminar.

During his visit to China in March 2010, HRH The Duke of York witnessed the signing of the liquefied natural gas contract between BG Group plc and China National Offshore Oil Corporation, opened the new campus of the British School of Beijing and attended the opening of the London School of Economics Asia Forum. He also attended meetings with the Vice Premier of the People's Republic of China, senior ministers and business leaders.
