HRH The Duke of York visits Russia – June 2010

HRH The Duke of York visited St Petersburg on 8-10 June 2010.

The main purpose of the visit was to reinforce trade and investment relations between the UK and Russia/St Petersburg and support British companies in the region and he met a wide range of representatives of the British and Russian business communities in St Petersburg. He was able to discuss current and future opportunities in various sectors such as transport, the city’s infrastructure development, banking, automotives and maritime industries. He also attended a reception on the occasion of the Official Birthday of Her Majesty the Queen.

During his visit, The Duke met the Governor of St Petersburg, Mrs Valentina Matvienko, and discussed the city’s plans for developing a more efficient public transport system and potential for co-operation in pharmaceutical and IT sectors.

He also had an opportunity to learn about British involvement in major infrastructure projects in St Petersburg and other UK companies’ success stories through a briefing by British firm ‘Grimshaw Architects’ on reconstruction of the Pulkovo airport and visits to the Flood Protection Barrier site, one of the biggest construction projects in Eastern Europe, the local office of HSBC bank and the Unilever tea-packaging factory.
