UKTI DSO Regional Directorates
The Regional Directorates help companies interpret customer requirements, highlight business opportunities, and assist with company marketing activities.
They provide specialist advice and access to the wider UKTI network in the UK and overseas making use of embedded UK military personnel, and defence and security experts based in several UK Embassies, High Commissions overseas, and other Government Departments.
Each RD has specialist advisers to provide advice on homeland security, police, fire and commercial security companies.

Events and exhibitions
UKTI DSO has an experienced team dedicated to supporting UK Industry at strategically selected defence and security exhibitions in the UK and overseas. Through a busy global programme of activity we can help UK businesses enhance their profile, project themselves to targeted audiences and engage with key decision makers in a cost effective, efficient way. We do this by working closely with trade associations, exhibition organisers, our overseas network of posts, Whitehall partners and potential customers and overseas governments. A key component of this is our delegation management service.

Export Support Team (EST)
UKTI DSO’s Export Support Team comprises serving British Army personnel, with up to date specialist technical and operational experience, that are dedicated to helping UK industry secure export success. The EST offers a unique service and is able to provide a range of military advice and support to UK businesses, including product demonstrations at exhibitions and seminars in the UK and overseas, product evaluation, specialist live firing events and bespoke training programmes.

In recognition of the importance of the humanitarian and disaster relief sector UKTI DSO is establishing a dedicated team to take forward this area of activity, with the aim of helping harness UK private sector capabilities and technology. We are working in close partnership with UKTI Aid Funded Business Service and the Department for International Development to support UK businesses interested in this sector.

Key Account Management
UKTI DSO recognises the critical importance of close relationships and frequent two-way dialogue with major British defence and security companies. Key Account Management maintain a senior-level, formalised and regular strategic engagement with prime UK companies. This allows DSO’s Key Account Managers to focus DSO resource to provide support to future campaigns and long-term projects. This is achieved through the market positioning of emerging systems and engagement with the Ministry of Defence, Home Office and other government departments. UKTI DSO can advise and inform industry’s strategic, long-term, export priorities and planning and provide a mechanism for wider UKTI DSO to access key UK companies.

Focusing on Medium Size Businesses (MSBs) (companies that essentially fall between the SME/KAM category), UKTI DSO’s MSB Team has developed an engagement model to help identify, develop and establish strategic relationships with companies that are new to DSO and have defence and security export potential,.

UKTI DSO – Market Analysis
Analysis of the global defence and security export markets is carried out by a specialist team within UKTI DSO Business Development. The team produce a variety of reports that are available to UK companies for a fee. Please see for a list of current titles and ordering instructions for chargeable reports.
The team are often able to produce bespoke reports for UK companies. A fee is charged for this service depending on the size and scope of the work involved.

The Ministry of Defence’s White Paper – National Security Through Technology – specifically emphasised the need for exports to support sustainment of the UK defence and security industrial base and the need for products and services to be exportable. UKTI DSO is able to offer exportability advice and guidance to industry and the appropriate Governmental Departments. This will help to identify suitable programmes for exportability consideration and will assist industry in identifying potential customers at a relatively early stage in the procurement cycle.

UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) provides trade advice and practical support to UK-based companies wishing to grow their business overseas. With a presence in about 100 countries, UKTI helps companies to export at every stage of business. This is done through a range of unique services, including participation at selected trade fairs, outward missions and providing bespoke market intelligence, to enter foreign markets and quickly get to grips with overseas regulations and business practice.
The Government controls UK exports of strategic goods, technology and software for important reasons, including safeguarding the national and collective security of the UK and its allies. Any item exported from the UK that is subject to export control needs a license. Applications to export controlled goods and technology need to be made direct to the .

UK Export Finance is the UK’s official export credit agency and a government department that operates under an act of parliament. It complements the private market by providing government assistance to exporters and investors, principally in the form of insurance policies and guarantees on bank loans.
