The UK has a diverse, vibrant and world-class automotive industry.
The UK automotive sector is worth over £11 billion to the economy and is ranked 4th in Europe and 12th globally. Around 140,000 people are employed directly in the UK automotive manufacturing industry. 11 of the world’s volume vehicle manufacturers have a UK presence, supported by 19 of the top 20 suppliers. In 2010, the UK produced more than 1.4 million vehicles and some 2.4 million engines.
Currently eight out of the 12 Formula 1 teams are based in the UK. The UK’s “Motorsport Valley” employs over 25,000 world-class engineers, while more than 15 universities offer motorsport engineering and management degrees.
